Tennis elbow pain
Tennis elbow is a condition caused by inflammation of the tendons on the outer bony prominence of the elbow.it is one of the most painful and irritating repetitive stress injuries. It is normally caused by someone doing a repeated movement that can strain the tendons that attached to the elbow. Anyone can experience this painful condition that results from constant and overuse of the tendon. Typically, this will start only when you are actively using the joint. However, as the condition worsens you may start to experience more severe pain for a prolonged period of time. Tennis elbow, or lateral epicondylitis, makes it difficult to do ordinary things like hold a pencil, turn the steering wheel, raise your hand, grip a hammer, open a door or carry a suitcase.
Treatment options:
Acupuncture & Acupressure – Acupuncture and acupressure are the most effective therapies for tennis elbow. This gives almost immediate relief and results are very impressive.
Medications – such simple pain killers, anti-inflammatory and corticosteroid injection. Despite the lack of inflammation the anti-inflammatory and steroid injection provide short term relief.
Massage therapy – A gentle massage can help to ease the affected area. Massage is effective in improving circulation and boosting relaxation, which is encouraged by the release of serotonin that works as a natural pain-killer and mood-booster.
Physiotherapy – It can assist with forearm stretching programs, local pain management techniques and gradual strengthening of the associated muscle groups. Physiotherapist will also be able to show you exercises you can do to keep your arm mobile and strengthen your forearm muscles.
Homeopathy – It is worldwide popular as safe natural and effective pain management remedy. There are a number of medicines for both acute and chronic pain and are used depending on the type of painful condition. It is very suitable for long term management.
Shock wave therapy – It is a non-invasive treatment where high-energy shockwaves are passed through the skin to help relieve pain and promote movement in the affected area.
Platelet Rich Plasma therapy – It allows a physician or trained medical personal to pull your own internal blood, extract the platelets from it and re-inject the Platelet-Rich Plasma into the injured tendons. This gives areas of injury and pain an added jolt of platelets to quicken the healing process.
Elbow Brace – It is a non-expansile strap worn around the widest part of the forearm muscles. It will redirect the pull of misaligned muscles. Patients often find relief of pain when using the elbow brace during activities.
Ice packs – apply ice to the swollen area. do not apply the ice directly onto the skin but wrap in a cloth and only apply for up to 15 minutes at a time.
Surgery – It may be recommended as a treatment of last resort in cases where tennis elbow is causing severe and persistent pain. These include removing a portion of the damaged tendon or releasing the attachment of the affected tendon. A repair of the healthy portion of tendon is sometimes carried out as well.
