Digestive Ailments – Causes and precautions
Digestive ailments can occur at any age, but the more we grow old, the higher is the chance that we suffer from different ailments such as digestion problems. All most one out of every three people reported about having tummy troubles in their old age. Now one might wonder what could possibly be the reason or the cause behind these stomach troubles? Let’s have a look at some of them.
- Having medicines – well with old age comes to a lot of medicines, even if you don’t want to, you’ll be bound to have them. Now having a different kind of medicines can lead your tummy to give you troubles. After having some particular medicines, you will suffer from Constipation; in fact, in some medicines, the side effects clearly mention Constipation!
- Slow Digestion – when we remain young, we eat different kinds of food without worrying much about having digestion problems. But as we grow old, gradually our digestive system doesn’t remain effective as it used to be. It takes longer than usual to digest foods and which can lead to Constipation
- Doing minimal activities – while we grow old, the vigor and the initiation to do any kind of work decreases. Lying down, bed rest are the things that generally go with older people. But by not doing any type of activity, your stomach will start giving you problems. According to doctors, the more you remain inactive, the higher will be the chance of your digestive system getting deteriorated.
- Avoiding proper intake of liquids – doctors always advice that one should drink at 1 liter of water every day. But when it comes to older people, it can be a bit problematic as having large amounts of liquids can increase their chances of urination at frequent intervals! But also, if you don’t meet the daily requirement of your water intake, then it will worsen your stomach condition and increases the chances of having Constipation.
These were some of the factors that cause digestive ailments among older people. But don’t get panicked as there are some precautions that you can undoubtedly pick up so that it reduces the chance of having any digestive ailments. Here are some of them.
- Try to have a proper diet – Make sure that your food contains ample amount of fiber in it! Try to keep green veggies and fruits in your plate as many days as possible. Proper intake of fibrous food can boost up your digestion process.
- Check off certain foods – It is very important that you know which kind of food causes your tummy to create problems. Try to avoid fried foods, too salty foods or foods that induce acidity!
- Consult your doctor – When your doctor prescribes you medicines, ask whether those medicines have Constipation as their side effect! If yes, then ask your doctor to provide you with some supplementary medicine
- Remain active – It is essential that despite your old age you remain active, do light works if you are unable to go out for a walk! But don’t sit in-actively. Otherwise, it will increase your chance of Constipation.
