What is homeopathy
Homeopathy is a system of medicine which involves treating the individual with highly diluted substances, given mainly in tablet form, with the aim of triggering the body’s natural system of healing. It is also known as homeopathic medicine. Currently there are three thousand substances used as homeopathic remedies to treat everything from colds and cough to arthritis and cancer.
Homeopathy was developed in the late 18th century by Samuel Hahnemann, a respected doctor in Germany. Hahnemann believed that “like cures like” and that minute concentrations of a particular toxin could cure the very same symptoms it would cause in larger doses. He believed that the underlying cause of most diseases was in fact just a phenomena and something that could easily be addressed with the use of simple homeopathic remedies.
Homeopathy is based on three principles:
- Like cures like – Homeopathy demonstrates that a substance that produces a certain set of symptoms in a healthy person can cure a sick person experiencing those same symptoms.
- Individualized Medicines – Practitioners select medicines according to a total picture of the patient, including not only physical symptoms but also lifestyle, emotional and mental states, and other factors.
- Minimum Dose – Unlike conventional medicines, a homeopathic medicine is believed to be more effective when its active ingredient is diluted and succussed.
The method of practice for most homeopaths is somewhat similar to that of a counselor or therapist. By spending time with the patient in an uncluttered room discussing their issues at length the Homeopath puts the patient at ease and help to root out the underlying causes of their illness.
The levels of homeopathic therapy
Level 1: First Aid
Homeopathy can be used in first aid in sprains and bruises, minor cuts & burns, skin irritations.
Level 2: Acute Homeopathy
Acute health problems are temporary conditions, such as colds, flu, coughs, food poisoning, etc. It not only treats but also improves immunity to reduce further occurrences.
Level 3: Constitutional Homeopathy
Constitutional homeopathy refers to the treatment of a person as a whole, including past and present symptoms of body and mind. It removes toxins, improves body’s physiological functions and controls the pathological damage to body. It is the holistic approach to control the disorder.
