Aromatherapy is a rapidly growing method of using plant oils, including essential oils, for psychological and physical well-being. The essential oils being used during aromatherapy are volatile plant materials and also other organic compounds. They can be extracted from flowers, stems, leaves and other parts of plants. Aromatherapy is a natural, safe and free of adverse side effects. It affects the whole person not just the symptom or disease and assists the body’s natural ability to balance, regulate, heal and maintain itself by the correct use of essential oils.

Some of the materials employed include:

Absolutes: Fragrant oils extracted primarily from flowers or delicate plant tissues through solvent or supercritical fluid extraction (e.g., rose absolute). The term is also used to describe oils extracted from fragrant butters, concretes, and enfleurage pommades using ethanol.

Carrier oils: Typically oily plant base triglycerides that dilute essential oils for use on the skin (e.g., sweet almond oil).

Essential oils: Fragrant oils extracted from plants chiefly through steam distillation (e.g., eucalyptus oil) or expression (grapefruit oil). However, the term is also occasionally used to describe fragrant oils extracted from plant material by any solvent extraction.

Herbal distillates or hydrosols: The aqueous by-products of the distillation process (e.g., rosewater). There are many herbs that make herbal distillates and they have culinary uses, medicinal uses and skin care uses. Common herbal distillates are chamomile, rose, and lemon balm.

Infusions: Aqueous extracts of various plant material (e.g., infusion of chamomile).

Phytoncides: Various volatile organic compounds from plants that kill microbes. Many terpene-based fragrant oils and sulfuric compounds from plants in the genus “Allium” are phytoncides, though the latter are likely less commonly used in aromatherapy due to their disagreeable odors.

Vaporizer (Volatized) Raw Herbs: Typically higher oil content plant based materials dried, crushed, and heated to extract and inhale the aromatic oil vapors in a direct inhalation modality.

Some of the ways in which aromatic plant oils can be used include:

Massage – Aromatherapy massage is a technique for helping to move the lymphatic fluids which is beneficial for your body as the lymph system moves the toxins. Applications of the essential oil on the skin can actually make your skin soft.

Inhalation – Inhale essential oils directly. Simply smell them straight from the bottle. You can also pour hot water into a bowl and add a few drops of essential oil. Lower your face a few inches over the bowl and cover your head and the bowl with a towel, then breathe deeply and slowly.

Compress – It is highly effective method for pain relief. Put 4-6 drops of oil into very hot or cold water. Use a folded piece of absorbent material and soak up the oil, wring out excess oil and apply to the affected area. Finally cover the area with the towel.

Vaporizers and Oil burners – Add 6 drops to water and vaporised in a burner. Never leave a candle oil burner unattended, as it is a fire risk. Electric vaporisers are available and are safer to use when asleep or near children.

Bath – Bathing can be helpful when used in combination with massage oils. Always take a bath first and then apply massage oil.

How aromatherapy works

Aromatherapy is the treatment or prevention of disease by use of essential oils. It also helps in pain and anxiety reduction, enhancement of energy and memory, stress reduction and relaxation, hair loss prevention, and reduction in itching. It works in two ways. One is the influence of aroma on the brain, especially the limbic system through the olfactory system. The other is the direct pharmacological effects of the essential oils. Clinical studies of aromatherapy in combination with other techniques show positive effects. Aromatherapy helps the body to find a natural way to cure itself and improve immune response.

Benefits of Aromatherapy

It can be useful for stress relief and relaxation

It helps in relieving minor discomforts

It boosts the immune system

It also helps in boosting respiratory and circulatory systems

It helps in mood enhancement, balance and well being

Essential oils can also be used in household and laundry cleaners. Some oils act as a natural insect repellent and pesticide. Citronella essential oil is the ingredient in the candles that is responsible for repelling the mosquitoes.

Ayurveda is an ancient art of healing the body, mind and soul naturally. It has been in great demand today. The main focus of Ayurveda is to help prevent diseases, illnesses and the overall health of the body to improve. It maintains the balance in the body, mind, and consciousness through proper drinking, diet, and lifestyle, as well as herbal remedies.

Ayurveda has developed a unique category system for each individual based on three main principles or doshas which are present in every person.

Vata Dosha – Vata dosha is connected to the nervous system. It is the most active dosha, responsible for perception, thought, speech, circulation, elimination, and all bodily movement. There are lots of food substances that can balance the Vata Dosha and to name some include the ghee, rice, corn and all sweet fruits.

Pitta Dosha – It is the energy that controls the body’s metabolic systems, including digestion, absorption, nutrition, and temperature. To balance Pitta, we need to make choices that are cooling, sweet, and stabilizing. The person has to consume lots of milk, mild spices like coriander and olive oil that are good to pita people. The foods that this person should avoid include fried and spicy foods.

Kapha Dosha – Kapha comprises all our cells, tissues and organs. Kapha molecules tend to stick together to form dense masses and give the body a chubby shape. People with kapha dosha have to include more light and dry food. Kapha imbalance can develop diseases like lung disorders and other heart diseases so these people have to consume lots of dry fruits.

Ayurvedic treatment involves more than 20 types of treatment, but the most commonly prescribed includes

Pranayama

Abhyanga

Herbal medicines

Rasayana

Yoga

Pancha karma

Benefits of Ayurveda

Ayurveda is the way of living life naturally.

Ayurveda integrates and balances the body, mind, and spirit.

Ayurveda balances three energy systems Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

The goal of Ayurvedic medicine is to prevent diseases.

Ayurveda also help reduce plaque and reverse the thickening of artery walls known as atherosclerosis in both healthy adults, as well as adults at high risk for heart disease.

Combining yoga with a certain Ayurvedic herbal remedy may reduce pain and disability in people with arthritis.

Ayurveda is a whole medical system, meaning that it is based on theories of health and illness and on methods of preventing and treating health conditions.

Chiropractic means done by hand. Chiropractic is a non-invasive, hands-on health care discipline that focuses on the neuromusculoskeletal system. It generally involves “manual treatment” or hand treatment. Doctors of Chiropractic often referred to as chiropractors or chiropractic physicians. Doctors of chiropractic may assess patients through clinical examination, laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging and other diagnostic interventions to determine when chiropractic treatment is appropriate or when it is not appropriate. Their major concerns are the effects of the neuromusculoskeletal system and its effect on the body’s control and performance.
Chiropractors cure and relieve lower back pains, improve reflexes, correct joint and tendon problems, align spinal cord, and promote better posture. After taking a complete history and diagnosing a patient, a chiropractor can develop and carry out a comprehensive treatment or management plan. He or she may recommend therapeutic exercise and other non-invasive therapies, and provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling. Chiropractors believe our bodies are self healing and once pressure is relieved from our nerves and our bodies are back in their natural alignment then healing will take place. A healthy body, operating at its full potential, can adapt to injuries and stresses of life and provide the best possible defence against illness. Chiropractic optimises an individual’s health and wellbeing creating good energy, zest for life and a greater immune system.

The chiropractic measures and procedures are not painful. In many cases, such as lower back pain, chiropractic care may be the primary method of treatment. Chiropractors are specially trained to perform spinal adjustments. These adjustments use a specific force in a defined direction to release the vertebra back to its normal position. These adjustments are safe and pain-free. Chiropractic treatment is one of the most reliable help for people of old ages while others who seek help from a Chiropractor suffer from headaches, ear infections, joint misalignment, arthritis, muscle and back pains, and others. It Manipulates, or adjust the affected joint and tissues, restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing tissues to heal. Treatment of the whole person and seeking out the root cause of a physical ailment makes much more sense than taking harmful drugs and submitting to invasive (expensive) surgeries.

Detoxification therapy removes toxic substances which may be natural or synthetic from the body. each person has a unique but limited level of tolerance for the “toxins” that are the by-products of industrialized society whether it’s smog, pesticides, heavy metals, or the additives and preservatives found in many processed foods. When that tolerance level is exceeded, the body’s natural waste removal process–centered in the skin, liver, kidneys, and large intestine–becomes overtaxed and incapable of functioning adequately.

Detoxification therapy includes a variety of techniques. The major detoxification therapy categories are: fasting, specific diets, vitamin therapy, colon therapy, chelation therapy, and hyperthermia.

Fasting – Fasting is generally done for a limited, specific number of days. All fasting regimens permit water to be consumed, for it is essential to prevent dehydration. Others allow juice as well, although purists consider this to be food.

Specific diets – There are many different types of detox diets, most are based on eating organic rather than processed foods.eat less meats and more fruits and vegetables, and drink only filtered water.

Vitamin therapy – Vitamins, such as C and E, are antioxidant nutrients capable of neutralizing certain toxins called free radicals. A free radical is a particular type of atom or group of atoms that can damage cells and impair a person’s immunity system.

Colon therapy – This procedure is performed by a trained therapist who introduces from 5-25 gal (19-941 l) of water, or other cleansing agents, directly into the rectum using a tube and nozzle. It removes toxic stool that remains in the folds of the intestine.

Chelation therapy – It involves the use of a chemical agent that is recognized as being able to effectively treat heavy-metal poisoning like lead or mercury. The synthetic drug ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) is administered intravenously or orally and binds to heavy metals in the blood. The toxic metals are then flushed out naturally through the kidneys.

Hyperthermia – It uses a sauna or a steam bath to sweat out toxic chemicals from fat cells. It is also known as heat stress detoxification

Benefits of detoxification

It strengthened the immune system

It enhances mental clarity

It helps to increase vitality

It also reduces blood fats

It helps to reduce blood pressure levels

It also improves hormone functions

It improves psychological wellness

Detoxification therapy can be dangerous for people who are underweight, or who have diabetes, hypothyroidism, or hypoglycemia. Anyone with a compromised immune system, including those who are recovering from surgery, should also avoid detoxification. It is best to seek professional help when determining a form of therapy.

Herbal therapy is a type of healthcare treatment which uses fresh or dried herbs. Many herbs have been used for a long time for claimed health benefits. They are sold as tablets, capsules, powders, teas, extracts and fresh or dried plants. The use of herbs helps to provide the body with essential nutrients that may be lacking in the daily diet. Herbal therapy incorporates the use of many different types of herbs in caring for the sick. While in some cases, a single herb is used in the therapeutic treatment.

Herbs are considered very safe when they are prescribed by a practitioner who has had the proper training. Herbal medicines do not have adverse side effects when prescribed properly.
To use an herbal product as safely as possible, you should follow the instructions given below:

Consult your doctor first

Do not take a bigger dose than the label recommends

Take it under the guidance of a trained medical professional

Be especially cautious if you are pregnant or nursing

Herbal medicine could better be described as plant based medicine, since it includes the use of all forms of plant life, including tree bark, roots, flowers and all other plant forms. Using plants as medicine provides significant advantages for treating many conditions. Herbal medicines are sold as tablets, capsules, powders, teas, extracts and fresh or dried plants. The tea is said to ease both the pain and the damage that can be the result of a heart attack in a matter of minutes. Leaves, stems and sometimes roots are dried and ground into fine powders that can then be ingested as capsules or used topically on the skin. Herbal aromatherapy is also a specialized type of herbal therapy which involves simmering fresh or dried herbs in water to release the scent. Herbal therapy is also used to treat severe ailments such as cancer and diabetes. Diabetic herbal therapy aims at aiding the body in processing carbohydrates more effectively, thus preventing spikes in blood sugar levels. It is used to treat a wide range of disorders such as anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, insomnia, migraine, nausea, skin problems such as eczema, poor blood circulation, hormonal imbalances and arthritis etc.

Herbal medicine is the oldest and still the most widely used system of medicine in the world today. It is used in all societies and is common to all cultures.

Music therapy is a health profession that uses music and musical activities to treat and address physical, emotional, social and cognitive needs of children and adults with disabilities. It promotes positive changes in the wellbeing of an individual. Music therapy needs to be completed in a controlled environment by a professional doctor. Based on what an individual needs, the therapy program designed needs to be custom and individualized. The types of music or musical stimuli used by the therapist are determined by the healing process that the therapist and patient prefer and the particular circumstances of treatment. In a session of music therapy, compact disc players, speakers, or headphones, and a wide selection of compact discs are used. Music can be used in the counseling setting for many purposes. Music can be paired with progressive muscle relaxation techniques, guided Imagery, and/or biofeedback to promote relaxation. You don’t have to be sick or injured to use music therapy, and healthy people can use it to control the amount of stress they feel. Music therapy does more than affect or change the way you feel. It has the power to heal and improve both psychological and physical pain.

Benefits of Music Therapy

Both Reiki and Pranic healing are energy’ healing techniques. Pranic healing has its origins in Hindu and is thought to be older forms of energy healing than Reiki. Reiki’s healing is drawn from a universal energy, thought to emanate from a higher intelligence. Its healing power can be used to treat illnesses whether mental, emotional, or physical.

How does Reiki works

In a Reiki treatment, a Reiki Practitioner uses his hands to send and transmit the Universal life force to those people, places, and things in need of Energy Balancing and Alignment. This allows those people, places, and things to either regain or maintain a healthy state. The Reiki practitioner does this by placing their hands either directly on or above the person receiving the healing session. Reiki stimulates the receiver’s own healing energy. The receiver’s body uses the Universal life force to accomplish self-healing.

How does Pranic healing works

During a pranic healing session, negative energy is moved away and positive energy is moved into the body. The practitioner does not need to touch the individual, but uses their hands to move the energy around the aura. During a healing session, the individual lies down or sits comfortably in a chair. The patient is asked to relax and keep her mind open. The practitioner stands over her, and uses hand movements to sense imbalances and manipulate the energy throughout the aura. Several sessions might be required to bring about complete healing.

Benefits of Reiki and Pranic healing

Both reiki and Pranic healing are holistic forms of therapy that uses energy techniques to re-energize and heal the body. Both are excellent forms of healing hands. Both are unique although the healing benefits and outcomes are similar in many ways.

Both modalities acknowledge that the body can heal themselves, and are an open channel for self healing.

Both heal the Aura or sometimes called the energy body which results in increased physical health.

They help to relax the mind and body thus relieving stress and improve sleep.

They also assist people with depression.

They also improve circulation, digestion and the elimination of toxins from the body.

They treating and prevent diseases by allowing the flow of energy to all areas that have experienced blockages, bringing balance, harmony and strength to one’s overall being.

Vaastu is one of the most ancient sciences of architecture and is composed of specific rules, regulations and directions, set down by sages of the Vedic times and Feng Shui is a science incorporating astronomy, geography, the environment, the magnetic fields and physics.

In vaastu, the preparation of site, commencement of building, layout of building, disposition of rooms in the building, kitchen, worship room, bed room, living room, walking space in rooms, verandahs, Doors and windows, woodwork, well, compound around building, toilet are all very important. Similarly, Feng Shui ensures improved health, better sleep, harmonious family relationship, longevity, active sex life, wealth, fame.
Both Vastu and Feng Shui are practiced to remove obstructions for the flow of energy. Vastu and Feng Shui both comprises of five elements.

Elements of vaastu

Earth

Water

Fire

Air

Space

Elements of Feng Shui

Wood

Water

Fire

Air

Metal

Similarities between Vaastu and Feng Shui practices

In both practices, obstructions to main doors caused by pillars, poles, trees, thorny plants and sap producing plants are considered harmful; square and rectangular properties are considered auspicious; properties close to graveyards and prisons are considered inauspicious; and having prayer rooms and toilets beneath staircases is considered inauspicious.

Difference between Vaastu and Fang Shui practices

Both Vaastu and Feng Shui are ancient sciences from India and China respectively, and attempt to attain the common objective of harmonizing nature with the living. The objective is the same, though the method is different. In Vastu Shastra, the cooking stove in the kitchen should generally be placed on the right while the sink should be placed on the left. In Feng Shui, the basic principle on the cooking stove and sink is that they must not be facing each other.

Moreover, in Vastu Shastra, sleeping with head pointing to the South or East directions is considered auspicious while as in Feng Shui, the sleeping direction should generally be in accordance to the person`s auspicious directions. In Vastu Shastra, big or heavy furniture like sofa, TV etc should be placed at the South or Southwest sector of a house. This will leave more space in the North and East area – considered to be auspicious. In Feng Shui, this furniture should generally be placed at the North sector, directly opposite the auspicious South sector.
