All You Need to Know About Immunity

There are millions of immunity definitions all over the internet. We will not bore you with a lengthy explanation. In short – Immunity is our Disease Fighting Capacity. The most important thing to concern is how to boost it.

Immunity plays a significant role in our bodies. It is not an organ or any body part, but it is a concept for which we are alive. Without the immune system, we cannot sustain even a minute in this world. The immune system is the reason our body is capable of fighting against the harmful micro foreign organisms and safeguarding our cells. The air we breathe every day contains zillions of microorganisms that are harmful to our bodies. But our immunity system fights against it and helps us to have healthy wellbeing. Multi-cellular organisms gain the capability to destroy these organisms. This capability is known as immunity.

So what is Immunity or Disease Fighting Capacity

Immunity can be Innate or Adaptive

Innate Immunity – This is kind of in-built in our body and is not altered by external stimulation. This can be non specific acting on all organism or specific to certain organism.

Adaptive Immunity – This kind of immunity is not in-built but changes under circumstances. This can be:

– Natural due to disease causing agent. This can be further passive (maternal or getting from mother) or active due to exposure to disease causing agent.

– Artificial due to some deliberate action. This can again be passive which is by transferring antibodies or active as done by vaccination.

The Immune System And How It Works

Our Immune System is made up of

– Organs

– Cells

– Chemicals

It has a fascinating way of defending our body just like Defense Forces protecting a nation. They need soldiers, the setup, infrastructure, weapons, intelligence and a system. Similarly our immune system has all these. It keeps record or memory of all ‘enemies’ for future attacks.

The Components

antibodies – they identify and mark the invading disease causing microbes

white blood cells – made in bone marrow they attack foreign invaders such as bacteria and virus

complement system – made up of proteins they have series of action that results in destruction of invading disease causing microbe

lymphatic system – made up of lymph nodes and vessels, they provide site and network that helps in action on and draining away disease causing microbes

spleen – a filtering organ that removes disease causing microbes and their products. Also produces components of immune system

thymus – A filtering as well as component producing organ

bone marrow – spongy tissue inside bones that produces red blood cells white blood cells and platelets.

others – skin, lung, digestive tract and body fluids like saliva tears etc also take part in immunity

The Response

On invasion by disease producing microbe our immune system gets into action. It identifies and start action to destroy the microbe. It also keep memory of this for future quick and better response. We may have inflammation with or without fever during this action of our immune system.

Immune System Disorders

Though the immune systems in organisms are one of the most sophisticated defense mechanisms and are highly adaptive. They can sometimes fail, and there are three different types-

Immunodeficiency

It occurs when at least one or more components of the immune system stop working, hampering its ability to respond and shield against the pathogens. Example HIV AIDS

Autoimmunity

It is the exact opposite of Immunodeficiency. Autoimmunity occurs when the immune system is hyper-active and fails to differentiate between self and foreign body and starts attacking parts of its own body. Common diseases are RA, SLE, MS, Celiac Disease, IBD etc

Hypersensitivity

Hypersensitivity occurs when the immune system gets overboard and starts damaging its body tissues. There are four types of hypersensitivity ranging from Type-1 to 4, while type-1 being the mildest and type-4, the most severe form.

Types of diseases caused by Immune Disorders

Inflammatory Bowel Disease

The thin lining surrounding our intestine comes under attack in this particular type of disease. Issues like blood from the rectum, severe cramps on the abdomen, loss of weight are inevitable.

Type-1 diabetes

When the immune system damages the cells that produce insulin, in the pancreas of your body, it ends up causing a serious disease like Type-1 diabetes.

Hyperthyroid/Hypothyroid

Hyperthyroid occurs when the immune system ends up producing antibodies that stimulate the thyroid gland to release an extreme amount of Thyroid, causing various abnormalities and difficulties like- rapid heart rate, bulging eyes, brittle hair, weakness, etc.

On the other hand, when the antibodies of the immune system attack and destroy the body’s thyroid gland, it causes the hypothyroid disorder. Complications like fatigue, excessive weight gain, depression, etc. can occur.

Allergic Diseases

Peculiar allergic disorders occur when the immune system becomes hypersensitive to various harmless substances like pollen, peanuts, etc. Such complications can range from fever, food allergies, asthma, etc.

Autoimmune Disease

Lots of people are unaware of the term autoimmune disorder – it is a physical condition or disease where the immune system attacks and tries to destroy the healthy cells. Nevertheless, checking of conditions, on time, is a must to resist the symptoms from getting worse.

So, below are some of the ways of learning and knowing this disorder. In the future, when we come across a person with similar symptoms, suggesting them to the doctor will be a better option.

Detection of autoimmune diseases

The detection of autoimmune disease is medically not possible with one medical test. As a result, the doctor needs to carry out a series of medical tests to confirm the presence of the disorder. These types of diseases remain hidden under various other symptoms. So, biased results are usually expected from one single medical test. Nevertheless, there are multiple medical tests available to cross-check the presence of these disorders in the body. Most importantly, the doctors need to carry on the ANA or the Antinuclear Antibody Test to firstly confirm the presence of any autoimmune disease.

Causes of autoimmune diseases

The exact cause and reason behind these diseases are still unknown. Various biological reasons can trigger an autoimmune disease. Needless to say, food habits, lifestyle, sleeping durations as well as the living styles, determine it all. Nevertheless, various researches and theories claim that some bacteria and viruses come in contact with the biological system and trigger the presence of these types of disorders. This triggering occurs due to a confused immune system that fails to acts naturally. Hereditary factors are also a massive reason behind the triggering of these diseases at younger ages. These all are a combined set of reasons. As a matter of fact, no particular reason has yet been found out for the triggering of autoimmune systems.

Statements on the curability of autoimmune diseases

The first and foremost fact to remember is that any form of autoimmune disease is manageable though may not be curable. The doctors check the symptoms and the side-effects related to them. The challenging factor is to control the symptoms over time. The symptoms increase if it goes neglected. Needless to say, the pain related to the symptoms is usually excruciating. As a result, doctors suggest various anti-inflammatory drugs to keep the pain under control. They also suggest various immunosuppressant drugs. These drugs control the activity of the immune system.

Worst known autoimmune diseases

The worst known autoimmune diseases include SLE, Multiple Sclerosis, Celiac Disease, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis etc. These diseases destroy life. Nevertheless, a series of medical checkups planned treatments, and prescribed drugs bring the patients back to their normal lives. It is a hardcore fight that takes a chunk of the person’s life. These less-than-deadly disorders make the patients go deranged and mentally harrowed. Obviously, patience and endurance is the key to reach the other end. So, fighting through it is the best way.

Blood tests are just not enough

A single blood test cannot finalize the presence of autoimmune disease in a person. It is a subtle form of disorder in the body. Various blood tests, including the Autoantibody test (AAT), is rather important to determine the presence of any autoimmune disease in the body. The Auto-antibody test includes checking the body with the presence of any auto-antibodies. One must know that auto-antibodies self-attack the cells, organs, and tissues. Needless to say, the immune system creates these auto-antibodies within the body.

Conclusion

Though Autoimmune diseases cannot be cured but can be well managed. With proper diagnosis, medication and also taking help of homeopathy and healthy lifestyle can go a long way in living a near normal healthy life.

Coronavirus Or Covid19: Cause, Symptoms And Treatments

With the start of 2020, a new virus started spreading and made headlines all over the world. Coronavirus was first originated in Wuhan, China, around December 2019. But within a few months, the virus, also known as CoVid19 or SARS-CoV-2, started spreading all over the world. And it leads to millions of deaths worldwide and infection. Currently, the USA is the most affected country in the world, with millions of people getting affected by this virus. India too has suffered a lot.

What do you mean by novel coronavirus?

The novel coronavirus is a new type of coronavirus, which got identified recently. The CoVid19 is a new type of coronavirus and not like the other coronavirus that circulates from humans to humans causing mild illness such as cold. This one can cause serious sickness and even death. A person with CoVid19 requires a different form of treatment than other coronavirus patients.

What are the different types of coronavirus?

The coronavirus is a part of a subfamily. Coronavirus has different types present, which depends on how it will spread and the severity of the disease. Till date doctors have found seven different types of coronavirus which have the possibility of infecting humans. Some of the common types of coronavirus are:

 229E (alpha)

 OC43 (beta)

 NL63 (alpha)

 HKU1 (beta)

Some of the severe coronavirus includes MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV that causes MERS and SARS disease in humans. And recently, the SARS-CoV-2 was discovered that is causing Corona Pandemic throughout the world.

What causes coronavirus?

Coronavirus is a type of virus that first develops in animals, and then it gets transferred to humans. The human has to come in close contact or consume the animal to get the virus. And the affected person then can transmit the virus to other people through respiratory droplets. Usually, when they talk, sneeze or cough, the drops get suspended in the air, and people inhaling that can develop infection or CoVid19. People who touch their eyes, nose, or mouth after holding an object or touching a surface with the virus present can also develop this deadly disease. But humans can also get this virus through other methods. Right now, one cannot pinpoint which animal first generated this virus, but researchers suggest it first developed in bats and got transferred to snakes or pangolins. Ultimately this was transmitted to humans.

What are the symptoms of CoVid19?

Some of the commonly found symptoms of CoVid19 are:

Fever

Trouble breathing

Coughing

Fatigue

Shortness of breath

Chills

Headache

Nausea

Body aches

Diarrhea

Loss of smell and taste

Sore throat

The patients can also develop pneumonia, septic shock, respiratory failure, and even death. People with CoVid19 also develop a certain type of syndrome known as cytokine release syndrome. The person with this syndrome can experience their bloodstream getting filled by inflammatory protein, also known as cytokines. When this occurs, your organs get damaged and kill the tissues. If you see your loved ones or yourself having the following problems, call the doctors immediately.

Bruised or blue lips and face.

Confusion.

Trouble breathing.

Chest pressure or persistent pain.

Excessive drowsiness.

But with every passing day, doctors can find new symptoms emerging.

Which sections of people are at risk?

Anyone who comes in contact with the affected person can get the coronavirus. Also, one gets exposed to their saliva by being close to them when they talk, cough, or sneeze. People with certain diseases can get the virus easily. They are:

COPD and asthma.

A weak immune system such as HIV

Obesity

Heart condition

Cancer

Liver disease

Kidney problems

Diabetes

Newborn children can get the virus during birth if their mother has the disease.

How to diagnose coronavirus?

Like any other virus condition coronavirus gets diagnosed by a blood test, tissue, or saliva samples. But most of the time, the test requires a cotton swab that receives the sample from inside the mouth. Nowadays, people can find many test centers dedicated to diagnosing coronavirus. People who seem to have certain symptoms should immediately get in touch with a doctor and get a test done to see if they have the disease. Also, treatment should start as soon as possible.

How to treat CoVid19?

Right now there is no treatment available or cure specifically for the coronavirus. But various firms have started to create a vaccine for this disease. But doctors try to treat the symptoms to try and keep the disease under control. Try to get medical attention if you have CoVid19. The doctors would first suggest to go into quarantine and not stay in close contact with anybody.

How to prevent coronavirus?

If you want to prevent yourself from getting the coronavirus, the best way is to avoid or limit human contact. People who have symptoms of CoVid19 should not come in close contact with another person. Also, maintaining proper hygiene and keeping physical distance can help prevent the disease from spreading.

What are some of the prevention tips?

Some of the tips for prevention of CoVid19 are:

Washing your hands with warm water and hand wash for at least 20 seconds.

Wear face mask in public

Make sure not to touch your eyes, mouth or nose with dirty hands.

People with flu like symptoms should avoid going out.

Maintain 2 meters distance from people.

When you sneeze, cover your face with your elbows or use a tissue. Make sure to dispose of the tissue properly after use.

Disinfect all the items that you touch regularly such as laptops, mobile phones, tables, chairs, etc.

After coming home from outside make sure to throw the clothes and shoes for a wash.

Should one wear a mask?

Previously many health departments suggested people with CoVid19 should only wear the mask when they stay home or go out. But with the increasing number of cases every day, they suggest everyone should wear a mask or cover their face with something when going out in public.

What is the recovery period of coronavirus?

The recovery time depends upon the infected person. If one has mild symptoms, they need 2 to 14 days to fully recover. On the other hand, people with severe conditions should expect a full recovery by three to six weeks.

HIV AIDS: No More a Taboo

The society we are living in, is already dealing with a lot of issues. People have started talking about most of them, yet we don’t discuss many issues which needs attention. The lack of discussion on such topics creates serious problems. People have come out of their comfort zones to talk about various concerning topics like menstruation, LGBTQ and feminism. Yet one of the most important subjects is not getting much attention.

We are talking about HIV aids. The major reason behind ignorance of this area is taboo attached to it. Many people believe that, it is against our culture to talk about sex and sexual health. Such mindset has already led to a lot of destruction. It will further destruct the young generation if not dealt properly.

HIV aids are a very sensitive topic to talk about. There are already a lot of myths in our society regarding this. The clouds of doubts are clearing, yet we have a long way to go.

Let’s know more about this important topic and delve deeper into understanding it.

HIV AIDS

HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. AIDS stands for Acquired Immunodeficiency syndrome. So, HIV is a virus whereas AIDS is a syndrome. Initially the symptoms are very common. The patient might feel fatigue, sore throat, fever etc.

Later, the condition keeps on deteriorating as the immune system of the patient keeps on depreciating. In latter stages there is a lot of weight loss, stomach related issues and oral problems as well.

a. Myths

Due to inadequate knowledge, people tend to hide their condition unless they are in a very bad situation. There are many reasons behind this, foremost being fear of being judged. There is perception in a lot of people that aids spread through sexual intercourse only.

Rather than getting support, the patient goes through character-assassination. The family and friends in many cases boycott the patient. Reason behind this is the fear that they might fall prey to this dangerous condition if they contact the patient.

We can remove these myths from the minds of the people only by proper counseling. Making them understand that it does not spread by talking to the person or handshaking is a good initiative.

b. The truth

The truth is highly contrary to the myth. There are many ways in which AIDS spread and unprotected sexual intercourse is just one of them. It can spread through body fluids like saliva or by using unclean needles used for injection. It can also spread from mother to baby.

Responsibility

Being responsible citizen of the country, it is our duty to understand the depth of some situations. In the process of making our own choices and living our life, we must also be careful for our safety.

Having multiple partners is one major cause of HIV AIDS. Unprotected intercourse with more than one person is a major concern. This creates a very unavoidable situation and you can blame no one but yourself.

The safety lies in our own hands. Contraceptive should be a very normal thing to ask for. All that disgust and uncomfortable situation that one has to bear while buying it should change. The situation can be made better by running campaigns and creating awareness.

Another very important thing to keep in mind is being alert. If there is any such moment where you feel that you should consult a doctor, you must. Don’t keep on pushing the situation and telling yourself that it’s all in your head. Sometimes, things that are in our head are true. If in any case, your report of HIV comes positive you should talk to your doctor and continue your treatment. Don’t let the internet fool you over such sensitive topics. Don’t believe everything that you read. No one knows more than your doctor.

It is true that this condition is incurable, but it can be highly controlled if given proper treatment. Having faith in yourself and your doctor, you can overcome this phase too.

Prevention

Why it is that, sex is such an unwanted word in our society. We all know the consequences of the situation if our younger generation gets this word wrong. Yet we are not comfortable talking about it due to barriers that are very fragile.

It is high time that we as an educated society come out of our cocoon. We must start talking about it to our children, younger siblings and friends. Having healthy conversation can help in improving the situation.

Schools should give sex education to the teenagers and tell them about the consequences of having unprotected sex. Conduction of adetailed session about the hormonal changes and Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) should take place in schools. This can help the young minds to have a foundation about the scenario. Further, it will help them make correct choices in future.

Parents must also take the charge and talk about such topics to their children. They are the one who can give the best advice to their offspring. They can explain such subtle issues to their delicate minds in their own way making the children comfortable too.

Role of the media

Media should also take the charge to impart knowledge to the public. They have a lot of viewers. They can show contents which comes with messages. Message driven projects are made now-a-days but, not many films have been made about AIDS and other STDs. All of us should be more vocal about facts.

It is also our responsibility to not spread information that is untrue. We must first enlighten ourselves and then others.

We should give emotional support to the patients of HIV. With all the love and care that they receive they can come at a better spot. People should repeatedly remind themselves that showing love or talking to their loved ones will not make them a patient as well.

With the help of education, campaign, awareness camps and discussions, we can surely tackle this situation and make a better tomorrow.

Immune Disease- Allergy

Allergy is something known almost to everyone. It range from seasonal allergy to allergy to particular stuff like milk egg metal etc.

Peculiar allergic disorders occur when the immune system becomes hypersensitive to various harmless substances like pollen, peanuts, etc. Such complications can range from fever, cough and cold, asthma, rashes etc.

Common signs for such disease include sneezing, rashes, red eyes, swelling of the affected areas, shortness of breath, etc.

Allergies and the Immune System

Allergies are common chronic health disorders. It occurs due to the antibodies produced by the immune system for specific allergens that exist ingest, inhaled, or entered through the skin.

The symptoms of allergic reactions will depend on the type of allergen encountered and the affected organ with which it came in contact with. Let’s look into the allergic signs and symptoms according to the organ it affects.

Nose- Sneezing, runny nose, swelling of the nasal area.

Eyes- red eyes, itching, watery, allergic conjunctivitis.

Ears- pain, inadequate hearing, fullness.

Skin- Rashes, itching, swelling

Gastrointestinal tract- vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, bloating.

Causes of allergic diseases

The two main reasons behind an allergic disorder are –

Host

Factors like heredity, sex, age, and race play an important role in understanding allergic reactions and diseases.

Environmental

Environmental pollution, foods, medications, insects, fabrics, latex, stress, alcohol, etc. are factors that dictate allergic reactions due to environmental factors.

Diagnosis

Let’s look into the various procedures of diagnosing allergic disorders.

Skin prick test

You need to introduce a minute portion of suspected allergen extracts in the body of the suspect through the tiny punctures done on their skin. If the patient is allergic to any of the substances, their body will notice a reaction within half an hour.

Blood test

It measures the number of specific antibodies in the blood that helps in understanding the severity of the symptoms to expect. Any authorized pathological laboratory can conduct such blood tests.

Treatments

Various methods to manage and treat allergic disorders are-

Prevention

Providing a small number of possible allergens at the early stage of life helps to prevent allergic disorders of the specific type.

Management

It means avoiding all the possible allergens that may cause an allergic reaction.

Medications

Using various medicines to prevent allergic disorder is also a common method of treatment. Homeopathy has a very special place in treatment of allergy.

Immunotherapy

This type of issue requires the patient to come in contact with different forms of allergens in generous amounts so that the immune system goes on overdrive and reverses its effects for the particular allergens.

Conclusion

There is no hard and fast rule for immune diseases like allergy, so taking proper precautions and following your doctor’s advice is the best thing to do.

Immune Disease- Asthma

The word ‘immunity’ is taken from the Latin word immunitas. The invention of the subject immunity in science happened to explain the fundamentals of microbiology. It is the resisting power of all the multicellular organisms from the harmful pathogens entering into the cells.

Moreover, there are two types of immunity, namely innate or inherited immunity and adaptive immunity. This entire system protects our body from all sorts of infections and disease conditions.

Any recurrent infections of the respiratory tract like the lungs, sinuses, ear, nose, and throat are quite common problems of patients who are referred to an immunologist for treatment. Asthma and other associated respiratory diseases are in link to the immune system and inflammation. It is mainly because our immune system is one of the regulators of asthma. Gradually asthma causes the damage of the lungs, which allows bacteria and viruses to enter into the body, causing other infections. Therefore, this leads to chronic infections in the body and, at the same time, losing the ability of our immune system to fight off.

Asthma is a heath condition that causes the airways to become narrowed. In extreme cases, the airways swell up and result up in producing mucus. It is an inflammatory disease that causes difficulty in breathing. Asthma mostly triggers some effects like coughing, whistling sound while talking or breathing, and shortness of breath (SOB). Asthma is never cured, but with medical treatment and proper guidance, the symptoms reduce. For some individuals, it is a minor issue, but for others, it can be a major health problem.

Signs And Symptoms Of Asthma

Asthma symptoms usually vary from person to person and depend at times on the climatic conditions. Attacks can happen once in a while or frequently all the time.

Symptoms are as follows:

Shortness of breath (SOB)

Chest pain

Trouble during sleeping due to sneezing and coughing

Coughing and cold caused due to a virus, influenza

Wheezing while exhaling

For certain people, asthma attacks only occur in specific conditions. They are:

During exercise– the attack is worst when the air becomes cold and dry.

Occupational attacks- irritants of the workplace like chemical fumes, dirt, etc. leads to frequent attacks.

Allergy instigated- caused due to airborne substances like pollen, mold spores, or lizard wastes.

Causes Of Asthma

Not everyone gets asthma. So, the prime reason is probably a combination of environmental and inherited factors when it affects the functionality of your lungs. Some of the common triggers occurring to individuals worsening the symptoms of asthma are:

Cold and cough

Severe physical activity

Intake of cold water

Chain-smoking

Stress and tension

Allergens like pollens, cockroach waste, etc.

Some medicines like beta-blockers, aspirin, and ibuprofen components

Preserved agents added for fermentation of foods and beverages

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

Prevention And Treatment Of Asthma

There is no specific treatment for asthma. You can reach out to your pulmonologist to find a stepwise plan for combating the asthma attacks.

Regular check-ups and taking medications on time is essential to control this ongoing condition.

Keep yourself updated with all sorts of flu vaccinations to prevent pneumonia in the future.

Keep measuring your breathing flow always whenever you find difficulty in inhalation or exhalation.

When peak flow measurements decrease, giving you an alarm of an oncoming attack, immediately take your medications as told by your physician.

For worst cases, keep an inhaler in hand to stop the situation from going beyond control.

Homeopathy has excellent treatment for asthma.

Infections And After-Effects Related To Arthropods

Arthropods are groups of insects that fall under a category. Many people are still oblivious to the fact that arthropods cause infections. The infection created by these insects is viral. Arboviral is the term used for these types of viral infections. These insects bite the victim, and the viruses spread from the bites cause a viral infection. The well-known insects, which spread infections, are ticks and mosquitoes. These types of infections are also termed as arthropod-borne viral infections.

Arthropods that spread diseases

Sections of arthropods are present that are the eminent reasons behind the massive spread of infections and diseases. These include the flies, mosquitoes, and ticks. The lesser eminent ones include lice, sand fleas as well as mites. They are the reasons behind the spread of bacteria, protozoa, and even lethal viruses. These infections affect the biological system as well as the mechanical system in the body. They can be lethal if not checked with the doctor.

Contagious or Infectious

Arthropods usually spread non-contagious or non-infectious diseases, they need vector to spread. Malaria, Chikungunya, and dengue are not directly infectious or contagious. The medicines of dengue or Chikungunya are still under discovery. The symptoms related to dengue and Chikungunya are treated. The patient primarily recovers, but the pains in the joints remain for weeks and months. They need time and care to recover, both physically and mentally. The most viral infection is malaria, but it is not contagious or infectious. The weather conditions are the reasons behind the spread of mosquitoes carrying the viruses.

Arthropods in the form of vectors

Well, the dedication of two words arthropod vectors goes to the series of insects like mosquitoes, sand fleas, lice, and many more in the class. These vectors transmit the infection through blood or even injections. The body fluids play an important role in the transmission of these vectors. Fleas and lice come in body contacts like hair and food to transmit the bacteria, viruses, and parasites into the body. These insects are swift and fast. They carry the virus, bacteria, and parasites. They silently and unknowingly transmit them.

Arthropods spread parasites

Arthropods are the main reason behind the spreading of the parasites from one living body to another living body. Sometimes, the parasites are arthropods, themselves, causing the spread of infections. These infections lead to diseases. These insects not only spread microorganisms among humans but also among animals and birds too.

Arbovirus and tick-borne virus

Arthropods are a major group of insects with sub-classes and super-classes. However, the viruses spread by each type of them are different. For example, the viruses spread by ticks are different from the viruses spread out by Arbovirus. Medical terms for tick-borne viruses are tibovirus.

Conditions favorable for arboviral infections

These insects only grow and live in swampy and damp areas. Tropical countries are the best habitats for them. They breed in rather wet areas, especially in summer months. Tropical countries cover the summer season on a long stretch than any other season. Therefore, these insects get all the favorable situations and places to spread and create havoc. Dirt and ditches are also the reasons behind the presence of them. Moreover, hot and humid climates make these many-legged creatures active and in the form to spread all sorts of viruses and parasites.

Spreading of major diseases

Arthropod vectors like mosquitoes and fleas spread pathetic diseases like malaria, dengue, Chikungunya, and even Lymphatic filariasis. These diseases are much more human-prone. They are lethal and cause excessive exhaustion to the human body. There was a time when these diseases were the reason of pandemic in the world. Later on, the discovery of individual medicines helped in curing these diseases. Still, even today, people take these diseases on a serious note. Doctors prescribe special medicines and antibiotics for these types of viral infections. The patients need to take proper food and rest until recovery.

Lethal Arthropods

There are certain deadly arthropods like scorpions and spiders that can kill people with their stinging venom. These insects are dangerous and are the reasons for deaths to many. Supposedly, insects of these types like cockroaches and bed bugs when it is exposed to the skin create eczema. Many insects even spread diseases are asthma. Other well-known species of arthropods include the wasps and bees. They have nasty venom, and their stings can kill a full-grown cow within twenty-four hours.

Conclusion

The infections spread out by arthropods are dangerous, lethal, and treatable. Most importantly, the modern medical world explores the infections and tries to restrict it. There are various ways of restricting the infections and the spread out of the diseases. Arthropods are interestingly a cluster of many-legged creatures. These creatures can create havoc in the human and animal kingdom. Global health organizations are trying their best to decrease the death rate caused due to these infections and diseases.

Bacterial Infections And Their Consequences

A bacterial infection is common, and it is not deadly. Bacteria are a microorganism, which spread infections. People are well acquainted with them. These infections are common among people, mainly due to pollution. One can relate sneezing and coughing to these infections. The fun fact is that nobody dies due to sneezing and cold. However, the infections can be painful and serious if one avoids medicines and treatments on time.

Common bacterial infections

The eminent bacterial infections include cough and cold, fever, pneumonia, food poisoning, and even diarrhea. Nevertheless, treatments for these infections include consuming strong medicines available over the counter. Now strong medicines should compact with the immune system. However, it is better to show a doctor for the right treatments. The other well-known bacterial infections include scarlet fever, typhus, Salmonella typhoid, and cholera. These infections are a bit exhaustive. These are serious infections. A good set of antibiotics can treat them.

Contagious or Infectious

There are various causes of bacterial infections. The first cause is that these infections are contagious. They are infectious too. Nevertheless, they spread out faster and easier, especially in crowded spaces. Bacteria enter the body through eyes, nose, mouth, and fingers. In fact, bacteria are air-borne and water-borne. Thus, these microorganisms cause infections and diseases at a rapid rate. The bacteria enter the body and attack the immune system. However, some infections are no contagious. Cholera, diarrhea, and food poisoning are not contagious. The spreading of them occurs through food and water. Unless more than one person is consuming the same food and drinking the same water, contamination does not occur. Therefore, there are both contagious as well as non-contagious bacteria.

Diseases caused by bacteria

Sometimes, these infections get serious and turn into diseases. Other times, when one neglects the early symptoms and neglect the treatments, these infections turn into diseases. Such diseases are leprosy, tuberculosis, plague, Syphilis, and Anthrax. These diseases can become lethal if not treated on time. They were once the basic cause of pandemics. Today successful cures are present. These diseases are curable, and the patients make healthy recoveries.

Some bacterial infection include:

Escherichia coli – enteritis, cholecystitis, UTI, diarrhea

Salmonella – food poisoning

Helicobacter pylori – gastritis and ulcers.

Neisseria gonorrhoeae – STD

Neisseria meningitidis – meningitis

Staphylococcus aureus – food poisoning, boils, cellulitis, abscesses, wound infections, toxic shock, pneumonia.

Streptococcal bacteria – pneumonia, meningitis, throat and ear infection

Duration of bacterial infections

Bacterial infections can last from one week to fifteen days or even a month. Usually, it depends on factors like treatments, cure, and type of infection. Cough and cold can last from two days to even a week. It depends on how fast the treatment starts. On the other hand, cholera and tuberculosis can last up to a month. The more serious the infection is, the duration of infections increases along with that. A sore throat can stay up to a month if neglected. Therefore, the duration differs from infection to infection. It depends upon the type of bacteria affecting the immune system.

Difference between viral infection and bacterial infection

Many times people confuse bacterial infection with a viral infection. Usually, it happens because the symptoms are similar, but the treatments are different. An infection caused by bacteria reacts to paracetamol. On the other hand, an infection caused due to viruses will not give in to paracetamol. It would rather continue to affect the immune system. As a result, the doctor suggests that the patient start taking antibiotics. Viral fever is different from fever caused due to cold, cough, and sore throat. Moreover, doctors call bacteria-borne infections, lasting for two weeks or more, as acute infections; whereas, the virus-borne infection is the chronic ones.

Immune system with a bacterial infection

Bacterial infections are not lethal or deadly, so it just not damages the immune system. It just disturbs it. In fact, people fight, many of these infections, back without the need to consume any antibiotics. Nevertheless, people use home remedies to keep a tab on these kinds of infections. Moreover, people treat a sinus infection without having a single antibiotic tablet. Rather they use many natural remedies to strengthen their immune system. A strong immune system fights back these infections rather easily. Therefore, people do not take all types of bacteria seriously. In fact, bacteria cause dust allergy. People try to take precautions rather than taking medicines for it.

Conclusion

Bacterial infections are easily treatable. The patient needs to take care and rest for a while. Doctors give suggestions for maintaining a restricted lifestyle during the treatment. These infections are not the reasons of death in recent times. Many types of medications are available over the counter. Doctors are present where one can reach out whenever they can. However, a strong immune system catches lesser bacteria than a weaker one. Therefore, getting a better immune system is always a positive thrust to the bacteria out there.

Parasite Infections

Parasitesare a type of organism that lives in or on another organism. It depends on its host to survive, and it often causes diseases to its host.

Parasitic Infections

Parasitic infections, as we have already stated, are a bigger problem in tropical and subtropical regions. Malaria is the most severe and deadliest parasitic disease. Intestinal helminths caused infections followed by the protozoan parasites are the most dreadful parasitic infections in humans in developing nations. In these countries, protozoan parasites are the most severe reasons for gastrointestinal infections compared to helminths. These parasites cause significant disease and fatality in the native countries around the world.

Parasites like helminths have many cells in their body. There are many other parasites which inhabit inside human guts. These are also some common types of helminths. Generally, they do not increase in the human body. On the other hand, the protozoan parasites have only had a single cell, and they can multiply inside our bodies. These are soil-transmitted germs.

These parasite infections are the most prevalent infections in the tropical region of the world. It is because of the problem of the supply of adequate water and sanitation facilities in this region of the world. Recent assessments imply that A. lumbricoides can infect more than a billion people; for T. trichiura, this number can reach up to 795 million, and for hookworms, it’s almost 740 million human beings.

Some other species of helminths family can cause severe infections, no matter how less widely prevalent parasites are. Intestinal helminths, however, rarely lead to death.

Amoebiasis, the protozoan parasite, has the greatest impact on developing countries. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), almost 50 million people around the world are suffering from an intrusive amoebic infection like amoebiasis every year. This results in huge 40-100 thousand deaths annually.

Cryptosporidiosis is another prevalent infectious disease in both developed and developing countries. This mostly happens with patients suffering from AIDS. Also, children aged less than five years are at greater risk of catching this disease. C. cayetanensis parasites have been responsible for numerous outbreaks of this diarrhoeal disease in the last decade.

Now here we are going to talk about the symptoms of some of these parasitic infections. Check them out below.

Symptoms of Parasitic Infections

Parasitic infections vary with the type of organism. Some symptoms of these parasitic infections are:

Trichomoniasis: It is a parasite-driven, sexually transmitted disease. It doesn’t show any symptoms in many cases; however, it might cause itching, irritation, and redness in some people, in their genital area.

Giardiasis: It might cause gas, diarrhea, upset stomach, dehydration, and greasy stools.

Cryptosporidiosis is another parasite that causes stomach cramps, nausea, dehydration, stomach pain, vomiting, fever, and weight loss.

Toxoplasmosis: It may show symptoms like flu. Sometimes the patient shows symptoms like swollen lymph nodes and muscle pains. These pain in toxoplasmosis may last for over a month.

Possibilities of getting a parasitic infection

Parasitic infections do not judge age, race, color, or anything else while inhibiting a host’s body. However, some people with lesser immunity are more vulnerable to these infections than the rest of us. People having a weaker immune system are at more risk of catching up these infections. People who are already sick with other illnesses might catch up with parasitic infection too.

People living in the tropical or subtropical area of the world face a huge problem of lack of supply of clean drinking water. The lakes, ponds, or rivers of the tropical and subtropical regions of the world are a natural habitat for Giardia and other parasites. These are very common in these regions. People working in childcare, or somewhere where they have to keep in touch with the soil regularly, are at higher risks of getting infected by these parasites.

Outdoor cats that come to contact with infected birds and rats while praying are responsible for the spread of these infections. These pets infect their owners with toxoplasmosis, a protozoan infection type we have already stated. Toxoplasmosis is a severe and harmful condition for pregnant women and the babies developing in their womb. If you’re pregnant, it’s important to clean the dustbin every day.

Treatment of Parasitic Infections

If you are affected by a parasitic infection, the treatment plan for you will depend on the specific diagnosis of your infection. Your doctors will prescribe your medicines according to the infection. They might prescribe medicines to cure trichomoniasis or cryptosporidiosis. However, they may not prescribe medicines for toxoplasmosis if you’re not pregnant or you are suffering from this infection for a long time.

The doctors might recommend different treatments to cure your symptoms, as well. These are, many infections, as stated earlier, can lead to diarrhea, followed by dehydration. Your doctors may also try to encourage you to have plenty of fluids to compensate those you lose with such physical condition.

So, these are some of the things you should know about different parasitic infections and their treatment. We have tried to cover up as many infections as possible in this article. Post your queries about other infections in the comments below, and we will try to inform you about those as well.

Infections- Fungi

Fungi are a member of the eukaryotic family. These organisms belong to the kingdom Chromista. It is derived from the Latin word called “fungus”. Fungi were first discovered by Scottish bacteriologist named Alexander Fleming in the year 1928. It is a small mass of branched and tubular filaments closed by a tough cell wall. Fungi start growing from the tip of filaments that makes up the bodies of any organism. It includes organisms like yeasts, rusts, smuts, molds, and mushrooms. About 300 distinct species of fungi exist, which can cause trouble for human beings. They have significant environmental and medical benefits. Fungi are found everywhere in huge number like in soil, water bodies, air, plants, animals, humans as well as they develop on the food items too.

Infection is referred to as the entering and involvement of different micro-organisms within the body tissues. These infectious components are usually not present in the body. Any fungus conquering the individual remains constricted to the skin, spreads into the cells and tissues, affects the bones or organs, and finally causing major infections to the body. Like every other micro-organism, fungi can be good or bad. Harmful fungal infections, at times, become very difficult for our immune system to handle.

Fungal infections can be broadly classified into four types. They are as follows:

Fungal nail infections

Vaginal candidiasis

Ringworm

Infections in the mouth, throat, and esophagus

Aspergillosis

Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP)

Fungal nail infections cause in the finger or toenails. It makes the nail become yellow, unnaturally thick, and easily breakable. Such infections only become painful, even caused in severity.

Candidiasis is infections that are caused by yeast, which is a type of fungus. It mainly occurs in the throat, gut, and vagina. The candida is capable of multiplying if the environment around the vagina supports it caused infections.

The fungus called “ringworm” causes it. It is circular in shape. It is usually red in color and itchy in nature. It mainly grows on skin surfaces. Anybody can have ringworms.

Candidiasis, when caused in the mouth or throat, is called thrush. It is one of the common infections, mainly in HIV/ AIDS patients.

Some people breathe in aspergillosis spores, which later on cause lung problems. At times it can cause allergic reactions and weakened immune systems.

People who have very low immunity power are more susceptible to such infections. It is a very genuine public health problem, which is quite common in every country.

Causes

Fungal infections are especially common in places where the skin touches or rubs with each other. It develops more in the warm, wet, and sweaty conditions. Areas that mainly get affected are armpits, skin fold regions, groin, as well as in between fingers and toes. Skin acts as a fence against any sort of infection. In case of any cuts in the layers of the skin can allow the fungus to enter causing infections.

Some of the risk factors of these infections to develop are:

Mainly children

People with high blood sugar

Low immunity power

Pregnant women

Overweight people

Inflammatory conditions

Hyper or hypothyroidism

Symptoms

Though symptoms vary from one person to another, some of the common ones include:

Rashes

Soreness

Sweaty

Swelled up skin

Puss formation

Redness in circles

Cracks on the surface of the skin

Scaling

Creamy texture

White patches

Oral lesions

Diagnosis

The doctor usually takes clippings of the infected area for testing. Such infections result in other underlying effects like loss of weight, uncontrolled diabetes, and urinary tract infection (UTI) at times.

It is very important to identify the cause by analyzing these symptoms. Immediately fix upon an appointment with your doctor to get it treated at the earliest.

Treatment

Treatment is based on medication. You don’t really need to be hospitalized until unless the infection is severe. In case if the infection spreads up to the bloodstream, then it a serious issue. The doctor will prescribe you anti-fungal drugs which are mainly available in the form of ointments, creams, and tablets. The compositions usually found in these medications are nystatin or amphotericin B. These drugs do not cause any side effects to the patients.

Infection-Virus: Introduction and Prevention

The world is going through a pandemic. In this tough time, it is essential to boost our immunity. We need to prepare our bodies in such a way that it becomes capable of fighting the antigens. Eliminating these particles from our bodies will eventually lead to better health of the patient.

Apart from knowing about the immune system and boosting its strength, it is also equally important to know about the infections. If we know about their behavior and impact, we can avoid them in so many ways.

Let us know more about the virus and its behavior and learn about some methods to avoid it.

Infection

There are different forms of infections. Viruses, bacteria, and parasites all come under the category, but this knowledge is incomplete. We have various enzymes and bacteria in our body fluid as well. We cannot consider them as infections.

Infection is something that enters from outside of our body. It is basically an antigen that makes its way to our bodies. They intervene in the work of white blood cells (WBC) to make our immunity weak. Symptoms of the infection are also different from one another; it is not necessarily evident initially.

Let us take the example of the corona virus. All of us have read that there are many more people who would test positive if they are tested. But, they are currently asymptotic because this virus starts showing its symptoms only after 14 days.

Also, every infection has different behavior. Some might spread throughout the body while some remain static.

Virus

Viruses are microorganisms and are notably diminished than the size of bacteria. They enter the body through various modes of contact. Exchange of fluids, physical contact, and air are some ways for the virus to enter into the body.

The virus is one of the most dangerous infections, and its outbreak has always proved to be difficult to handle. Be it the Ebola outbreak or Swine flu or current corona virus outbreak, we know about its adverse effects. Its outbreak is fatal to the health of the people. Moreover, it has broken the economy of many countries and brings everything to square one.

A virus consists of RNA, DNA, and nucleic acid. These elements are basic for all the living entities. It depends on the virus that the RNA and DNA that they contain are double-stranded or single-stranded.

The foremost step of the virus is to enter the host’s body. It enters by different means, sometimes by mosquito bites and sometimes by respiratory passage. It can also enter the body if we use used-syringe and used-injections. They are not capable of making their own ‘food’ and hence depend on the host for the energy. It leads the patient to become weak.

Common Virus Diseases

Common Cold and Flu

Measles Mumps Rubella

Chicken Pox

Herpes

Swine Flu

Corona Disease

HIV AIDS

Rota Virus Diarrhea

Warts

Hepatitis

Encephalitis

Prevention

Let us understand some ways in which we can prevent this infection from getting into our body. First of all, we need to understand that healthy immunity is the key to a healthier lifestyle. How do we attain a stronger immune system?

Balanced diet and discipline in lifestyle can be helpful. Simple habits like washing hands more frequently with soap should be added to the routine of people. Apart from that, we should cover our mouths while sneezing or coughing. It is something very basic that we have learned in primary school, but sadly, most of us don’t follow it.

When we are on any trip or tour, sanitizer should be handy. We won’t get water everywhere to wash our hands in such circumstances, and so, sanitizer can be the savior.

Drink a lot of water and gargle more frequently. Also, have a balanced diet and add medicinal herbs to it. Try adding garlic, turmeric, and holy basil in your food habit to strengthen your immunity.

We all are suffering from a very tough time, and we should enlighten ourselves. We should be aware of the facts which can be helpful for us. As stated above, the story starts with a virus entering the body. Try to be extra careful, and don’t let it in. Follow preventive measures and stay safe and healthy. Small changes can lead us to better tomorrow. Little care taken at this moment can save us from bigger and sadder scenarios.
