Treatment of Allergy

Homeopathic Treatment of Allergy

Homoeopathic treatment is very useful and offers excellent cure for all types of allergies. Many homeopathic physicians suggest that remedies be used as follows: Take one dose and wait for a response. If improvement is seen, continue to wait and let the remedy work. If improvement lags significantly or has clearly stopped, another dose may be taken. The frequency of dosage varies with the condition and the individual. Sometimes a dose may be required several times an hour; other times a dose may be indicated several times a day; and in some situations, one dose per day can be sufficient. Following are some homeopathic medicines for allergy.

Allium cepa

Arsenicum album

Gelsemium

Natrum muriaticum

Nux vomica

Ferrum phosphoricum

Sabadilla

Acupuncture & Acupressure Treatment of Allergy

Acupuncture or acupressure stimulation is given to patient clear of their allergy. It makes your body strong to the substance, where it was weak before. Thus, an allergic reaction should not result upon future contact with that same substance. When this result is obtained, the patient is said to have been ‘cleared’ of his allergy to that substance.

Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy Treatment of Allergy

Psychotherapy and hypnotherapy can be important curing tools in allergy treatment. Psychological problems play an important role in the production and exacerbation of allergic disease. In the treatment of patients with allergic disease, dealing with emotional problems is considered as adjunctive to specific desensitization.

Conventional / Allopathic Treatment of Allergy

Conventional allergy treatment is most commonly directed to block the immune response, or in more severe cases, to suppress the entire immune function with steroids, both topical and systemic. Patients often become dependant on their medication, they suffer from numerous side effects, and more importantly, they worsen their overall health by constantly suppressing their immune system. It provides the symptomatic relief to the patients.

Surgical Treatment of Allergy

Depending on the symptoms associated with the allergy, a surgical treatment is also available.

Myringotomy : It is used to treat ear infections associated with allergic reactions.

Endoscopic surgery : It is used to remove nasal polyps or a deviated septum.

Laser Surgery : It is used to reduce the sizes of the turbinates to alleviate or eliminate the possibility of swelling making it easier to breathe.

Dietary & Herbal Treatment of Allergy

If you have food allergy eliminate those items from your diet.

Diet rich in fruits and vegetables,

Reduce the intake of foods that may stimulate inflammation such as meats, full fat dairy products, sugar, and highly processed foods.

Other Treatment of Allergy

Yoga is a measure that has helped many people with allergies overcome their symptoms and find relief from their sneezing, itchy eyes, scratchy throats and the myriad of other symptoms that go along with seasonal and environmental allergies or any type of allergy that affects the upper respiratory system.

What is Allergy

Allergy is a disorder of the immune system. It occurs when the body’s immune system overreacts to normally harmless substances. Allergy significantly reduces people’s quality of life. It affects not only their personal, but also their professional lives. An allergy is everything from a runny nose, itchy eyes and palate to skin rash. It aggravates the sense of smell, sight, tastes and touch causing irritation, extreme disability and sometimes fatality.

Symptoms of Allergy

There are many different types of allergies and the symptoms can vary according to what the allergen is. Common symptoms of an allergy may include:

Feeling of warmth

Flushing, tingling in the mouth

Wheezing, coughing and shortness of breath

Attacks of sneezing or a runny nose

Itchy and watery eyes

Anxiety

Stomach or uterine cramps,

Vomiting and diarrhea.

Blocked nose and sinus pain.

Red rashes or inflamed skin

Causes of Allergy

Immune system mistakes the known allergens as a serious threat

Atmospheric pollution

Hereditary factor

Risk factors of Allergy

Factors that can increase your risk for developing allergies include the following:

Homes with cigarette smoke

Bottle-fed Children

Babies born during high-pollen seasons

Premature babies

Genetic Factor

Complications of Allergy

Allergies often occur along with other problems, such as:

Raised blood pressure,

Swelling, and Breathing difficulties.

Nosebleeds from allergy symptoms or allergy medication

Inflammation of sinuses.

Ear problems especially in young children.

Upper respiratory infections

Sleep disturbances from a stuffy nose that requires mouth breathing.

Skin infections from scratching itchy skin.

Diagnosis of Allergy

There are number of tests that can detect Allergy on the basis of symptoms. The most common form of testing for respiratory allergies is skin testing, most often the “scratch test”. This test includes putting a small amount of a possible allergen on the skin of the arm or back, then scratching or pricking the skin so the substance inters the body. The patient is then observed for a reaction to that substance, such as redness or swelling. Multiple possible allergens can be tested at one time.

Precautions & Prevention of Allergy

There are some simple things you can do to prevent allergies at home, work school, outside and when you travel.

At Home – House dust mites, animal dander and mold exposure should be controlled

At Work – You should talk to your health care provider or pharmacist about how you can prevent allergies at your specific workplace.

Traveling –. Keep your car windows closed when traveling. Shower after spending time outside to wash away pollen that collects on your skin and hair.

At School – Encourage your child to wash his/her hands after playing outside. There should be treatment options to help a child manage his/her symptoms during the school day.

Treatment Causes of Allergy – ETHOS HEALTH CARE.

An allergy starts when your immune system mistakes a normally harmless substance for a dangerous invader. The reasons why allergies develop are not known, there are some substances that commonly cause an allergic reaction. People who have allergies are typically allergic to one or more of the following:

Airborne allergens, such as pollen, animal dander, dust mites and mold

Certain foods, particularly peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, soy, fish, shellfish, eggs and milk

Insect stings, such as bee stings or wasp stings

Medications,particularly penicillin or penicillin-based antibiotics

Latex or other substances you touch, which can cause allergic skin reactions

The risk of an allergic reaction is dependent on either host or environmental factors

Genetic Causes

A parent with an allergy is more likely to pass it to their child, and the child’s allergy is also likely to be more severe. Identical twins will share the same allergy 70% of the time.

Environmental Causes

A person is more likely to suffer from an allergy if they live in a highly industrialized country, such as factory-heavy regions in China. On the national level, allergies are more common in an individual that lives in an urban area as opposed to a rural area.

Although allergies are most common in children, they can occur at any time and any age. Sometimes allergies go away, but they also can come back years later.

The complications of allergies range from mild annoyances to severe, life-threatening situations. Having an allergy increases your risk of certain other medical problems, including:

Anaphylaxis – Anaphylaxis is most commonly associated with food allergy, penicillin allergy and allergy to insect venom. An emergency treatment is necessary to decrease the risk of death.

Asthma – Allergies and asthma go hand in hand. If you have an allergy, you’re more likely to have asthma — an immune system reaction that affects the airways and breathing. In many cases, asthma is triggered by exposure to an allergen in the environment (allergy-induced asthma).

Sinusitis – The inflammation and congestion caused by allergies can lead to both acute andchronic sinusitis

Infections of the ears or lungs – The congestion caused by allergies can also cause theauditory tube to become blocked, leading to ear infections.

Fungal complications of your sinuses or your lungs – You’re at increased risk of getting these conditions, known as allergic fungal sinusitis and allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, if you’re allergic to mold.

Atopic dermatitis (eczema) – Your risk of getting these conditions is higher if you have hay fever, a pet allergy or a mold allergy.

Sleep apnea – Congestion and inflammation, sinusitis, and other breathing problems caused by allergies can causesleep apnea or make existing sleep apnea worse.

An allergy complication may be as simple as a runny nose and itchy eyes or as deadly as anaphylactic shock. Patients should take note of their symptoms so they can communicate with their doctors and get the appropriate treatment.

Treatment Diagnosis of Allergy – ETHOS HEALTH CARE

If you experience symptoms of an allergic reaction, your doctor will perform a physical exam and ask you about your health history, signs and symptoms.

If you have a food allergy, your doctor may:

Ask you to keep a detailed diary of the foods you eat

Have you eliminate a food from your diet (elimination diet) — and then have you eat the food in question again to see if it causes a reaction

Your doctor may want to order tests to determine what is causing your allergy. The most common types of allergy tests are:

Skin test – Your skin is pricked and exposed to small amounts of the proteins found in potential allergens. If you’re allergic, you’ll likely develop a raised bump (hive) at the test location on your skin. A skin test is most valuable for diagnosing:

Food allergy

Mold, pollen, and animal dander allergy

Penicillin allergy

Venom allergy (such as mosquito bites or bee stings)

Allergic contact dermatitis (a rash you get from touching a substance)

Blood test – A blood test that’s sometimes called the radioallergosorbent test (RAST) can measure your immune system’s response to a specific allergen by measuring the amount of allergy-causing antibodies in your bloodstream, known as immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies. A blood sample is sent to a medical laboratory, where it can be tested for evidence of sensitivity to possible allergens.

A drug allergy is the abnormal reaction of your immune system to a medication. A true drug allergy is caused by a series of chemical steps in the body that produce the allergic reaction to a medication.

Certain medications are more likely to produce allergic reactions than others. The most common are:

Antibiotics, such as penicillin

Aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, such as ibuprofen

Anticonvulsants

Monoclonal antibody therapy

Chemotherapy

Common symptoms of a drug allergy include:

Hives

Runny nose

fever

Itching of the skin or eyes

Skin rash

Swelling of the lips, tongue, or face

Shortness of breath

Wheezing

Risk factors include:

A history of other allergies, such as food allergy or hay fever

A family history of drug allergy

Increased exposure to a drug, because of high doses, repetitive use or prolonged use

Certain illnesses commonly associated with allergic drug reactions, such as infection with HIV or the Epstein-Barr virus

Tests and Diagnosis involves:

Physical examination

Skin tests

Blood tests

Preventive measures

If you have a drug allergy, the best prevention is to avoid the problem drug. Steps you can take to protect yourself include the following:

Inform health care workers

Carry emergency epinephrine

Treatments of Drug allergy

For skin reactions such as rashes and itching antihistamine creams (for example Benadryl) or steroid creams (for example, hydrocortisone) are used.

Anaphylaxis requires an immediate epinephrine injection as well as hospital care to maintain blood pressure and support breathing.

Your doctor may prescribe an antihistamine or recommend an over-the-counter antihistamine such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) that can block immune system chemicals activated during an allergic reaction.

Injections of antihistamines and or steroids are given for serious allergic reactions.

Eye allergies are also called ocular allergies or allergic conjunctivitis. It occurs when something you are allergic to irritates the conjunctiva. The eyes produce a substance called histamine to fight off the allergen. As a result, the eyelids and conjunctiva — the thin, filmy membrane that covers the inside of your eyelids and the white part of your eye (sclera) — become red, swollen and itchy, with tearing and burning. This is the delicate membrane covering the eye and the inside of the eyelid.

Causes of eye allergy

The most common causes of allergic conjunctivitis are seasonal allergens such as pollen and mold spores. Indoor allergens such as dust mites and pet dander can also cause eye allergies year-round. Other substances, including perfumes, smoke, chlorine, air pollution, cosmetics, and certain medicines, can also play a role. An allergy to contact lenses, called giant papillary conjunctivitis, makes eyes sensitive and red.

Symptoms of eye allergy

Red, itchy, burning and puffy eyes

Severe swelling of eyes associated with discharge

Stuffy nose and sneezing

Sensitivity to light

Treating Eye Allergies

Oral antihistamines, either OTC or prescription (non- or lightly sedating), may be used for itchy eyes

Nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs(NSAIDS) are particularly useful in treating itchy eyes.

Steroid antiinflammatory eye drops are very effective in treating eye allergies, but they are reserved for severe symptoms that are unresponsive to other treatments.

Eye drops containing ketotifen can relieve allergy symptoms for up to 12 hours. They won’t cause rebound redness even with long-term use.

Sterile saline rinses and eye lubricants can soothe irritated eyes and help flush out allergens.

Your allergist may suggest Allergy shots when other measures have been unsuccessful.

Fish allergy – ETHOS HEALTH CARE

Most allergic reactions to fish happen when someone eats fish, sometimes people can react to touching fish or breathing in vapors from cooking fish. While fish is easier than many other allergens to avoid, a fish allergy is often quite severe. Fish can cause severe allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis. Therefore it is advised that people with fish allergy have quick access to an epinephrine auto-injector at all times.

Symptoms of Fish Allergy

Eczema

Hives

Swelling

Abdominal cramps

Nausea

Rashes

Diagnosing Fish Allergies

Your allergist may diagnose an allergy to a specific kind of fish through the following tests:

Skin-prick test – In the skin-prick test, a small amount of a liquid containing protein from the fish being tested is placed on the back or forearm, which is then pricked with a small, sterile probe to allow the liquid to seep into the skin. If a raised, reddish spot forms within 15 to 20 minutes that can indicate an allergy.

Blood test – In the blood test, a blood sample is sent to a laboratory to test for the presence of immunoglobulin E antibodies to protein from the fish being tested.

Avoiding Fish

Read food labels carefully.

You may need to completely avoid places where fish are prepared or processed.

It might be necessary to avoid eating at seafood restaurants, where there’s a high risk of cross-contamination.

If you have a fish allergy, talk with your doctor about carrying emergency epinephrine. Consider wearing a medical alert bracelet or necklace that lets others know you have a food allergy.

Treatment of Food Allergy

Homeopathic Treatment of Food Allergy

Homeopathy has large number of medicines to cure food allergy. It relieves allergy complaints and gives lasting cure. Homeopathy treats the person as a whole. Treatment is constitutional. It means that homeopathic treatment focuses on the patient as a person, as well as his pathological condition. It balances the energy system, improves immunity and body functions. It naturally cures the root cause of disorder. Some of the homeopathic medicines for food allergy are:

Bryonia

Lyco

Puls

Chinin ar

Calc

Sulph

Acupuncture & Acupressure Treatment of Food Allergy

Acupuncture can help restore normal immune function. An acupuncturist develops a plan which addresses the person’s total symptoms and provides relief, while addressing the underlying roots of the allergy. Treatments can include dietary modification, and often the use of herbal formulas. In acupuncture philosophy, there are certain points in the body called meridians which are known to balance and restore correct energy flow through the body. By targeting specific skin meridians, the therapy will treat the blockages and nervous conditions that lead to allergies.

Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy Treatment of Food Allergy

Psychotherapy and hypnotherapy can be successfully used to relieving stress and other psychological issues that can contribute in quick recovery and healthy bodily response.

Conventional / Allopathic Treatment of Food Allergy

The main conventional treatment for wheat allergies is allergen avoidance.

Epinephrine – given for severe allergic reactions. When injected, it acts as a bronchodilator

Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) – A common antihistamine

Corticosteroid – Reduces swelling and various symptoms of allergic reactions. A cream/ointment may be given for skin reactions

What is Food Allergy

Food allergy is an immune system reaction that occurs soon after eating a certain food. Food allergy is an abnormal response to a food, triggered by the body’s immune system.

Symptoms of Food Allergy

Itching in the mouth

Difficulty swallowing and breathing

Nausea

Vomiting

Diarrhea

Abdominal pain

Causes of Food Allergy

Food allergies arise from sensitivity to chemical compounds (proteins) in food. They develop after you are exposed to a food protein that your body thinks is harmful. The first time you eat the food containing the protein, your immune system responds by creating specific disease-fighting antibodies (called immunoglobulin E or IgE). When you eat the food again, it triggers the release of IgE antibodies and other chemicals, including histamine, in an effort to expel the protein “invader” from your body. As a result of this response, food allergy symptoms occur.

Risk factors of Food Allergy

Family history

A past food allergy

Asthma

Common in children, toddlers and infants

Complications of Food Allergy

Anaphylaxis

Atopic dermatitis

Migraines

Diagnosis of Food Allergy

Your doctor will consider a number of things for making a diagnosis:

Physical examination – A careful exam can identify or exclude other medical problems.

Food diary – Your doctor may ask you to keep a food diary of your eating habits, symptoms and medications.

Skin test – A skin prick test can determine your reaction to a particular food.

Blood test

Food challenge testing

A detailed record of what and when you eat. Your doctor may recommend a diet with certain foods removed, particularly those foods that are common allergens.

Precautions & Prevention of Food Allergy

Know what you’re eating and drinking

Be careful at wile eating food at restaurants

Talk with your doctor about prescribing emergency epinephrine

Precautions & Prevention of Hay fever

Treatment of Hay fever

Homeopathic Treatment of Hay fever

The homeopathic remedies are prepared from natural substances to precise standards and work by stimulating the body’s own healing power. It is useful for very watery eyes, when the person may feel the need to wipe or rub them constantly. Some of the remedies for hay fever are:

Allium cepa

Arsenicum album

Euphrasia

Gelsemium

Nux vomica

Sabadilla

Acupuncture & Acupressure Treatment of Hay fever

Acupressure uses the gentle but firm pressure of hands, and sometimes feet. There are new bands which hold a specially shaped button on the elbow which are designed to help reduce hay fever. According to some practitioners, nasal congestion, discharge, and itching can be relieved during the first acupuncture treatment, and lasting relief from hay fever symptoms can be achieved in up to six treatments.

Conventional / Allopathic Treatment of Hay fever

Conventional medicine treats hay fever with antihistamines, steroids, or desensitisation treatments. Steroids (corticosteroids) for hay fever are available as sprays, creams and tablets. They help prevent and treat the nasal inflammation, nasal itching and runny nose caused by hay fever

Surgical Treatment of Hay fever

Laser surgery is used to vaporise the mucus membranes of the nose to inhibit the symptoms of hay fever. Care has to be taken to prevent burning of the nasal tissue.

Dietary & Herbal Treatment of Hay fever

Diet should include apples, oranges, grapes, tomatoes and nuts

Eat dark green leafy vegetables

Exclude cherries, peaches and melons from your hay fever diet

Avoid white bread, white rice, white pasta, white sugar and brown sugar

Other Treatment of Hay fever

Aloe Vera has mild anti-histamine properties. Take the juice internally diluted in water

What is Hay fever

Hay fever is an allergic reaction. Hay fever is caused by an allergic response to outdoor or indoor allergens, such as pollen, dust mites or pet dander.

Symptoms of Hay fever

Runny nose and nasal congestion

Trouble sleeping

Watery, bloodshot eyes

Sneezing

Cough

Fatigue

Itchy nose, roof of mouth or throat

Sinus pressure and facial pain

Decreased sense of smell or taste

Causes of Hay fever

During a process called sensitization, your immune system mistakenly identifies a harmless airborne substance as something harmful. Your immune system then starts producing antibodies to this harmless substance. The next time you come in contact with the substance, these antibodies recognize it and signal your immune system to release chemicals such as histamine into your bloodstream. These immune system chemicals cause a reaction that leads to the irritating signs and symptoms of hay fever.

Risk factors of Hay fever

Other allergies or asthma

Family history

Being male

Being exposed to cigarette smoke during your first year of life

Living or working in an environment that constantly exposes you to allergens — such as animal dander

Complications of Hay fever

Ear infection

Absences from work or school

Sinusitis

Poor sleep

Worsening asthma

Diagnosis of Hay fever

Your doctor will perform a physical examination and ask questions about your personal and family medical history. He may recommend one or both of the following tests:

Skin prick test – During skin testing, small amounts of material that can trigger allergies are pricked into the skin of your arm or upper back and you’re observed for signs of an allergic reaction.

Allergy blood test – A blood test can measure your immune system’s response to a specific allergen.

Precautions & Prevention of Hay fever

Use a humidifier in the winter

Sleep with the head of the bed tilted upwards

Remove indoor plants and other sources of pollen from inside the house

Keep doors and windows shut during heavy pollination days

Wear wraparound sunglasses to stop pollen getting in your eyes when you are outdoors.

Install an air purifier

Do not smoke or let other people smoke in your house.

Change air filters monthly in air conditioning and heating systems

Cover your nose with a mask when cleaning the house or mowing grass

Keep pets out of the house during the hay fever season.

Homeopathy has excellent treatment of allergy and its reactions like itching, running nose etc. It balances immune system. It treats the person as a whole. Treatment is constitutional. It means that homeopathic treatment focuses on the patient as a person, as well as his pathological condition. It balances the energy system, improves immunity and body functions.
Sinapis

Acupuncture & Acupressure Treatment of Mold Allergy

Acupuncture can decrease allergic reactions. it may help the person tolerate what cause the reaction in the first place. Acupuncture and Acupressure target the same points or meridians but through different ways. Both clear away this blockage and ensure free movement of energy.

Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy Treatment of Mold Allergy

Psychotherapy and hypnotherapy can help in stress relief. They can help in better coping and early relief.

Conventional / Allopathic Treatment of Mold Allergy

In the allopathic treatment of mold allergy, nasal sprays are used which help to prevent inflammation caused by an upper respiratory mold allergy. Some Nasal corticosteroids are also prescribed such as fluticasone, mometasone and beclomethasone. Antihistamines can help with itching, sneezing and runny nose which include loratadine and cetirizine.

Dietary & Herbal Treatment of Mold Allergy

Limit your intake of cheeses and foods that are made with mold

Avoid mushrooms, yeast and other fungi

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a flavor enhancer commonly added to Chinese food, canned vegetables, soups and processed meats. Reactions to MSG have been called the “Chinese Restaurant Syndrome,” referring to that fact that MSG is commonly found in Asian-style foods. Most people who are affected will experience symptoms shortly after eating foods containing MSG.

MSG is a substance that causes a reaction in nerve cells. The use of this stimulant affects the mouth and the brain. Most people respond to MSG with a stimulation of hunger, taste, and smell, which is why it is used. The down side to this stimulation is that it can also cause an allergic response because of the over stimulation of the nerve cells. Not only does it enhance flavors, but it can cause symptoms that can even be life threatening.

Symptoms of MSG Allergy

Headache

Flushing

Sweating

Drowsiness

Facial pressure or tightness

Generalised weakness

Numbness, tingling or burning in the face, neck and other areas

Rapid, fluttering heartbeats (heart palpitations)

Chest pain

Nausea

Treatment of MSG Allergy

Most allergic reactions to MSG are mild and will go away on their own. A person experiencing shortness of breath, swelling of the lips or throat, heart palpitations, or chest pain should proceed to the nearest emergency room immediately.

Pollen is very fine powder that comes from trees, grasses, flowers and weeds. Wind and birds carry this pollen from plant to plant to fertilize them. When people who have a pollen allergy inhale the pollen, they get allergy symptoms. The types of pollen that most commonly cause allergic reactions are produced by the plain-looking plants (trees, grasses, and weeds) that do not have showy flowers. These plants manufacture small, light, dry pollen granules that are custom-made for wind transport.

Depending on where you live, your individual sensitivity may differ dramatically. If a person lives in a geographic area that has hot, dry, windy days, then there is more of a chance that pollen is in the air.

Ways to reduce Pollen exposure

Close your windows and outside doors.

Avoid using window and attic fans during pollen season. Use air-conditioning to cool your home.

Don’t allow pets that spend time outdoors in your bedroom. They can bring in pollen on their fur.

Roll up your car windows when driving.

Do not picnic in parks or in the country during the pollen season.

Dry clothing and bedding in the dryer. Don’t hang them outside.

Shower when you arrive home and bathe your eyes frequently with a wet washer

Treatments

Antihistaminesare effective at treating mild cases of pollinosis, this type of non-prescribed drugs includes loratadine, cetirizine and chlorphenamine.

Decongestantscan be administered in different ways such as tablets and nasal sprays.

Allergy immunotherapy(AIT) treatment involves administering doses of allergens to accustom the body to pollen, thereby inducing specific long-term tolerance.

Treatment Prevention of Allergy – ETHOS HEALTH CARE.

There are steps that may delay or possibly prevent allergies from developing. Preventing allergic reactions depends on the type of allergy you have. The best way to prevent an allergic reaction is to avoid the allergen that causes it.

When trying to identify what causes or worsens your allergic symptoms, track your activities and what you eat, when symptoms occur and what seems to help. This may help you and your doctor identify triggers.

Cut down on dust around you living area by cleaning regularly

For people who suffer for pet allergy (such as dog allergy or cat allergy) the first priority is to remove these pet always from your home.

If you’re allergic to pollen, stay inside with windows and doors closed during periods when pollen is high.

To prevent food allergy (such as gluten allergy or wheat allergy) try to avoid food that contains ingredients that causes you to have an attack.

When you purchase your foods from the supermarket checkout the ingredient label for any ingredient that you are allergic to.

If you are allergic to mould spores, keep your home dry and well-ventilated

Medication allergies can get you mild to severe side effects. Many people with allergies to multiple antibiotics keep a list of what medications they can take safely.

If you have ever had a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis), make sure you carry two adrenaline auto-injectors with you everywhere.

Rhinitis allergic is an allergic inflammation of the nasal airways. It occurs when an allergen, such as pollen, dust, or animal dander (particles of shed skin and hair) is inhaled by an individual with a sensitized immune system.

Symptoms

It can begin at any age, although most people first develop symptoms in childhood or young adulthood. The symptoms are often at their worst in children and in people in their 30s and 40s`. Below are some symptoms:

Sneezing and itchiness in nose

Sore throat

Blocked or runny nose

Sleep problems

Watery eyes

frequent headaches

dry, itchy skin

Causes of Rhinitis Allergy

Allergic rhinitis is caused by a nasal reaction to small airborne particles called allergens. When a person with allergic rhinitis breathes in an allergen such as pollen, mold, animal dander, or dust, the body releases chemicals that cause allergy symptoms.

Diagnosis of Rhinitis Allergy

Minor allergies usually only require a physical exam. Skin prick is one of the most commonly used tests. Another common allergy test is a blood test, sometimes referred to as a RAST test. It can measure the levels of allergy-related substances.

Treatment of Rhinitis Allergy

This condition is treated with one or more of the following:

Antihistamines

Decongestants

Eye drops

Nasal sprays

Immunotherapy (allergy shots)

You can sometimes prevent symptoms by avoiding the pollen you are allergic to. During pollen season, you should stay indoors where it is air-conditioned, if possible.

Seasonal allergies are allergy symptoms that occur during certain times of the year, usually when outdoor molds release their spores, and trees, grasses, and weeds release tiny pollen particles into the air to fertilize other plants. Seasonal allergies also called hay fever and allergic rhinitis can make you miserable.

Symptoms of seasonal allergies

Runny nose and nasal congestion

Watery or itchy eyes

Sneezing

Cough

Itchy nose, roof of mouth or throat

Sinus pressure and facial pain

Swollen, blue-colored skin under the eyes (allergic shiners)

Decreased sense of smell or taste

Reduce your exposure to allergy triggers

To reduce your exposure to the things that triggers your allergy signs and symptoms (allergens):

Stay indoors on dry, windy days — the best time to go outside is after a good rain, which helps clear pollen from the air.

Delegate lawn mowing, weed pulling and other gardening chores that stir up allergens.

Remove clothes you’ve worn outside; you may also want to shower to rinse pollen from your skin and hair.

Don’t hang laundry outside — pollen can stick to sheets and towels.

Wear a dust mask if you do outside chores

Treatment of seasonal allergies

Various over-the-counter or prescription medications offer relief. Some of them are:

Antihistamines – These medications counter the effects of histamine, the substance that makes eyes water and noses itch and causes sneezing during allergic reactions

Nasal steroids – These anti-inflammatory sprays help decrease inflammation, swelling, and mucus production

Decongestants – Available in capsule and spray form, decongestants thin nasal secretions and can reduce swelling and sinus discomfort

Immunotherapy – Immunotherapy (allergy shots) might provide relief for patients who don’t find relief with antihistamines or nasal steroids.

Skin allergy

There are many different types of skin conditions that can be triggered by allergy and they can be extremely uncomfortable, causing a great deal of distress and even embarrassment. Bumps, itching, redness, rashes and other skin conditions are very common, and their cause may not be easily identifiable. Some of the skin conditions are:

Atopic dermatitis (Eczema) – Eczema is the most common skin condition, especially in children. In about half of patients with severe atopic dermatitis, the disease is due to inheritance of a faulty gene in their skin called filaggrin. Also, some people with eczema have a food sensitivity which can make eczema symptoms worse

Urticaria (Hives) – Hives(urticaria) is red bumps or welts that appear on the body. It occurs as a result of histamine being released into the small blood vessels; this may be caused by an allergic process. Hives can appear for just a few minutes or last for hours

Latex allergy

Latex allergy usually develops after repeated exposure to latex products, including balloons or medical gloves. Symptoms may include hives, itching or a stuffy or runny nose

Angioedema – Angioedema is swelling in the deep layers of the skin. It is often seen together with urticaria (hives). Angioedema many times occurs in soft tissues such as the eyelids, mouth or genitals

Contact dermatitis – Contact dermatitis is a reaction that appears when the skin comes in contact with an irritant or an allergen. Symptoms include a rash, blisters, itching and burning. Skin irritants, such as water, soap, detergent, fabric softeners and shampoos, are the most common cause of irritant contact dermatitis.

How to treat skin allergy at home

There are some things you can do to make it more comfortable.

For healing to happen, you must stop using or touching what’s triggering your allergy.

Over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion may relieve itching.

A cool compress or a cool shower can help calm fiery rashes. Gently pat dry and then moisturize.

Treatment What is allergy – ETHOS HEALTH CARE

An allergy is a hypersensitivity disorder of the immune system. A substance that causes an allergic reaction is called an “allergen”. Allergens can be found in food, drinks or the environment. Examples of allergens include pollens, dust mites, molds, animal proteins, foods, and even medications. When an allergic individual comes in contact with an allergen, the immune system mounts a response through the IgE antibody. Therefore, people who are prone to allergies are said to be allergic or “atopic.”

When a person is exposed to an allergen by inhaling it, swallowing it, or getting it on their skin, a series of events create the allergic reaction:

The body starts to produce a specific type of antibody, called IgE, to bind the allergen.

The antibodies attach to a form of blood cell called a mast cell. Mast cells can be found in the airways, in the intestines, and elsewhere. The presence of mast cells in the airways and GI tract makes these areas more susceptible to allergen exposure.

The allergens bind to the IgE, which is attached to the mast cell. This causes the mast cells to release a variety of chemicals into the blood. Histamine, the main chemical, causes most of the symptomsof an allergic reaction.

People with allergies blame the allergen for their symptoms – a friend’s pet, pollen or dust mites. However, the allergens are not harmful. The problem is not the allergen but the allergic person’s immune system which mistakes harmless substances for harmful ones.

The number of people worldwide with allergies is increasing. The steepest increase in allergies has been observed in children, particularly food allergies. The prevalence of allergic conditions has increased significantly over the last two decades and continues to rise.
